Hamburg High-Flyer –
Going for Gold at the 2016 Olympic Games
The HighFlyer Captive Balloon is on its way to Rio de Janeiro, where it will be serving as an extra-special attraction the 2016 Olympic Games.
It is with regret that we must announce that the Hamburg HighFlyer is moving on to pastures new. Extensive efforts were made to find a suitable location for our beloved balloon, but unfortunately, our plans to relocate the HighFlyer to either the Moorweide Park, Bismarck Park or Planten un Blomen were rejected.
It has been an honour to provide approximately 120,000 passengers with an opportunity to view our beautiful city from an altitude of 150 meters. On behalf of the whole of the HighFlyer Team, we would like to extend a huge thank-you to all those who help ensure the smooth and professional operation of the balloon throughout the past nine years.
A special thanks goes to the team of the HighFlyer, the Deichtor Exhibition Halls, the Hamburger Abendblatt and Hamburg’s Senate and Cultural Authority, who provided us with the original motivation to get this project off the ground (in every sense of the word!).
We would also like to thank the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training who were instrumental in helping us organize visits from local schools. We had great fun helping the children of Hamburg get to know their incredible home city from a new perspective.
Finally, as we bid farewell to Hamburg, we’d like to wish all of our passengers and supporters - in true HighFlyer style - safe journeys and happy landings.
With best wishes,
HIGHFLYER / DR. GÖTZE LAND UND KARTE / VLADI PRIVATE ISLANDS
